Many incidents of '■'. minor importance are reported. Once a party of Britishers stumbled into the German trenches, and when they realised it they ran the gauntlet of the German rifle fire. The majority escaped.
In another case the Germans surrouned a,. French company near Ypres. The German officer herded his prison l ers into the corner of a wood and commanded his men to fire,: and all were killed. The British in the neighbouring trenches witnessed this but, were unable to prevent' it.
