Mr Philip Snowden, M.P. for Blackburn, will be tendered a civic reception at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and will be the guest of the New Zealand Club at, luncheon on .Monday. Mr T. Ryan, the South Australian Education Commissioner, visited' Lincoln College yesterday, and/left by last night's ferry steamer for Wellington, where he will remain for some days. - Messrs T. W. Kirk (Wellington), S. R. Cattell (Dunedin), James Craigie (Timaru), L. Clark (Dunedin), B. Robert (Oamaru), and Thos. D. Dempster (Wellington), are amongst the guests staying at the Clarendon Hotel. The Rev. A. N. Scotter was elected secretary at the North Canterbury District Methodist Synod, which met yesterday. The meeting decided that it was not, opportune at the,present time to set aside a secretary for foreign missions. 'The Rev. N. H. Papakura (who was a prdniinent competitor at the last competitions in Christchurch) has resigned his position as Methodist Native minister at Colac (Southland), and is now a candidate for the Northern Maori electorate. The death has occurred at Tauranga of Denis Kennedy, aged 84. He was a Maori War veteran and took part in - Jfcho Gate Pa engagement.
