PETROGRAD, November 18. At C'/ernowitz for two whole days, the' city fathers and priests travelled the countryside, begging from the peasants who came to the" Town. Hall, 'weeping, and deposited their trinkets. The Jews sacrificed their ritual candelabra, while tfte Archbishop contributed fifty thousand crowns worth of silver from the altar furniture. Finally the burgomaster broke into the shops of the goldsmiths, who fled when the money was collected. General Arintinoiffi came to the town nail and said:—"City fathers, you look fagged." After inspecting the treasure he said:—"Take it back, I only wanted you to experience the heartburnings of Kameneg and Podolski. '' ..
