ACCLIMATISATION.
i i ii 'i i • • THE CANTERBURY SOCIETY. A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held last evening., Mr W: H. Tisclall presided. A telegram was received from the Under-Secretary, for Internal Affairs siating that regulations respecting the deer-shooting season, arid providing for the issue of eight licenses, would "be gazetted this week.. The Otago Acclimatisation Society wrote that it had heard that the Canterbury Society was killing off the Mallard ducks in its district, and, for the information of, its Game Committee, it would__be glad to have information; as to the reasons for this action.—A subcommittee was set up to furnish the Otago Society with the information required. The curator of the Acclimatisation Gardens (Mr D. Hope) reported that,.as the liberation of the fry was now concluded, most of the work at the hatchery was of a routine nature. One of the North Island kiwis had died. The secretary reported that the society's deposit in the Post Office Savings Bank was £473, and in the National Bank £9l 9/4. Accounts amounting to £ll 17/10 were passed for payment.
