BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SPREYDON. A meeting of the Spreydon Borough Council was held last night, when there were present Cr E. H. Clark, who presided in the absence of the Mayor, and Crs E. Hayes, W. H. Winsor, A. Manhire, G. H. Rudd, D. Sykes, and S. Hancock. Much of the correspondence was held over until next meeting. The financial statement showed receipts since last meeting amounting to £226 13/-. The debit balance on the District Fund Account was shown as £1461 tf/3> antl on the Shingle Pit Account the sum of £76 17/9. The Loan Interest Account showed a credit balance of £77 10/-, and £4O on the No. 2 Loan Account. In regard to a letter received from the Heathcote County Council, advocating the Avidening of the Colombo Street bridge, the Works Committee reported that the Government had granted a subsidy of £IOU for work on River Road, and the clerk was in communication with the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes on the subject. The report was adopted, and it was resolved to inform the Hea-Jicote County Council that the Borough Council was willing to confer with other bodies concerned on .the matter of improving the Colombo Street bridge. Cr Rudd was appointed chairman of the Finance Committee, in place of Cr Woods, who had resigned.
