ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.
CANTERBURY AND WEST COAST CENTRE. The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Canterbury and West Coast Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association was held in their rooms, Worcester Street, last evening, when there were present Mr A. E. G. Rhodes (chairman), Mrs H. H. Smith, Drs Ingles and Louisson, Messrs McKinney, Ritchie, and Thomas; ' Amongst the correspondence received was a letter signed by the private secretary to Lord Liverpool, expressing the very sincere thanks of their Excellencies for the expression of sympathy contained in the association's letter of October 28.
A letter was also received from the Town Clerk, stating that the City Council had agreed to the date of the annual appeal of the association being altered from December 5 to February 27. Mr Duncan Rutherford wrote suggesting steps being taken in the direction of sending fowls, mutton, hares, and rabbits to Great Britain, for the purpose of-making broth for wounded soldiers, and stating that he thought the suggestion would be well supported in the country districts. It was decided to thank Mr Rutherford for his suggestion, and to state that the committee-would endeavour to carry out' the idea. Enquiries would be made as to the cost, and also as to the best method of dealing with the matter.
A communication was received from the president of the W.C.T.U., Kaikoura, in which it was stated that steps would be taken to form a sub-centre in the autumn.
