SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
LINWOOD. A meeting of the Linwood School Committee was held on Wednesday night; present —Mr .W. H. Denton (chairman), Messrs W. H. Jenlcin, G. B; Gundry, G. Phillips, R. Ellis, R. Carter,/ 11. F. Herbert, and H. J. Jamieson. The schoolmaster reported that for the past four weeks the attendance has been of a highly satisfactory nature. The roll number was now 572, and the average attendance had been 530. The staff had contributed the sum of £6 12/6 to the Mayor's Patriotic Fund, and had received the sum of £3 5/3 from the pupils for the sale of patriotic songs. This amount had been sent on to the board for the Mayor's fund. The senior pupils won the public schools' junior football competition. A deputation waited on the committee from the Linwood Swimming Club, and it was decided to let them have the bath on the same terms as last year. It was decided to open the new infant school on Saturday, November 21. PAPANUI. At a meeting of the Papanui School Committee, there were present: Messrs Jones (in the chair), Lynsky, Pye, Kettle, Marshall, Driscoll, and Hookham. The use of a room at the main school was granted a 9 a polling booth on election day. The Waimairi County Council wrote, drawing the attention of the committee to the culvert at the school J gate. It was decided to forward the letter to the Board of Education. The headmaster reported that the roll number at the main school for October was 245, and the average number 223; the side school 113 and 99 respectively. Mr Lynsky, who is leaving the district, resigned his position as a member of the committee. In accepting his resignation, several of the members spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Lynsky's services during the last two and a-lialf years. Accounts amounting to £9 3/6 were passed for payment. SELWYN. The annual school treat and distribution of prizes in connection with the Selwyn School was held on Thursday. There was a large attendance of parents and friends. The children spent an enjoyable time with sports and games during the afternoon. In the evening a dance was held. The music was supplied by Messrs W. Chappell, M. O'Brien, and .Tames Burgess. Supper was dispensed by the ladies.
