SPREYDON BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Spi eydon Borough Council was held last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr G. R. Whiting) and Grs E. H. Clarke, T. Woods, E. Hayes, A. Manhire, D. Sykes, S. BL Hancock, W. EL Winsor, and G. H. Rudd. The financial statement showed receipts since last meeting amounting to £9B 3/3. The bank balances District Fund Account (debit) £1095 19/5, Loan Account (credit) £9B 5/11, Shingle Pit Account (debit) £lO9 6/3, and Loan Interest Account (credit) £l7 5/-. Accounts amounting to £361 18/9 were passed for payment.

The Works Committee recommended that, now that the days are long, street lighting be discontinued for the present, pending a more satisfactory system. The report was adopted. Taking into consideration the finances of the borough, the committee also recommended the council to consider the advisability of putting workers on half time, or to find some other means of reducing expenditure in that direction. This was referred back to the Works Committee to report at the next meeting of the, council. It was decided to make preparations for taking a poll of ratepayers to raise a loan for the work on No. 1 and No. 2 drains.
