PATRIOTIC DEMONSTRATION.

The patriotic demonstration to be held at Kaiapoi on Labour Day promises to-be one of the most successful functions yet held in that town. The chief feature of the attraction will be the revival of ancient Maori customs, over 100 Natives taking part. The procession, which takes place at 10.30 a.m., will be headed by the Kaiapoi Brass Band, followed by Maori warriors in Native dress, with a waggon on which will be a Native whare, Maoris dressing flax and lighting fires by friction, and eooking, followed by a Maori war canoe filled with Maori girls performing the canoe poi. These will be followed by a bullock waggon and a team of working bullocks, Oddfellows' and Foresters' displays, Fire Brigade, Ambulance, Boy Scouts, and school children 's displays, Dark Town and minstrel troupes, Cure Boating Club display, decorated tradesmen's turnouts and motor cycles, bicycles, motor cars, and novelty displays. Prizes are being given for the best displays. During the afternoon a sports meeting will be held in the park, the chief attractions being the bullock and pig roasting in Maori ovens, hakas, and poi dancing. In the evening a patriotic picture show and dance will be held. The Kaiapoi Cycling Club, who are promoting this demonstration, anticipate that the Kaiapoi Patriotic Fund will benefit by a good round sum.
