MAORIS FOR THE FRONT.
SOUTHERN CONTINGENT DEPARTS
A most enthusiastic farewell was accorded the South Island Maoris who left by the ferry steamer Wahine on Saturday evening to join their comrades in the north. The ferry wharf was crowded; and all the departing Natives were subjected to numerous handshakes and other manifestations of regard. The time between the arrival of the train and the departure of the steamer was occupied in singing patriotic songs. As the vessel cast off, the strains of the well-known hymn, 11 God Be with You till We Meet Again," were heard, sung by the female friends of the departing contingenters. Those on board responded with the National Anthem.
