MOVING AHEAD. ALLIES GAIN GROUND. PARIS, October 17. A communique, issued on the 16th,

'at midnight, states the action on the left wing everywhere continues with vigour. The Allies' gained ground at some points, particularly at Laventie, eastwards of Estaires. Paris reports that on the left wing the action of the allied armies extends from the region of Ypres to the sea. The Germans have occupied Blankenberghe, on the coast, 12 miles north of Ostend. PARIS, October 17; The following official statement is made: — "Progress continues. We have occupied Fromelles, southward of Lille. French Marines repulsed an attack along the Ypres Canal to the sea."
