John H. King, aged 69, a resident of Pembroke, left Motakanui last Monday to ride home. On Fjidayhis horse was found at Thomson V; Gorge with the saddle and bridle on. A search has been organised. He leaves a widow and 11 children. v
W. McSavney, a lad employed on a farm- at Loburn, had his eyes and face injured 1 by the explosion v of a cartridge he was endeavouring to extract a breech-loading gun on Saturday " morning. The cartridge burst, but the shot struck the ground, the injury being caused by unignited grains of powder. It is not expected that the accident will cause any permanent injury to the.-lad.'s sight. -/ , '
A waterside worker named -. William Barnes had the top of his thumb taken off by being caught in a winch, . whilst working on board the Union Steam Ship Company 's Tarawera at Lyttelton on Saturday evening. He was attended by Dr. J. A. Newell. - •
