The conference appointed Mr C. F. Mayer' president and Mr H. Hunter secretary-treasurer, and left to the Christchurch Union the appointment of the other members of the executive. The Christchurch Union has now constituted the executive as follows, subject to the approval of the other unions:—Messrs G. F. Mayer and J. Jackson (representing Southland), G. Whiting (Dunedin), F. Schrader (Timaru), E. Parlane (Christchureh), J. C. Ralph (Wellington), G. H. Duggan and H. Hunter (Auckland). The Canterbury Drivers' Union, has received a copy of the following resolution passed by a meeting v of. drivers at Palmerston North:—"This meeting of drivers views with alarm the Press reporta of an agreement arrived at between drivers and drivers' employers in Dunedin for the partial suspension, by mutual consent, of the driver's award, which gives the employers the right to work men on half time. Seeing that such agreement now awaits the endorsement of the other unions, who are parties in the Dominion -Award, we herein register our protest, claiming that it interferes with, and is a direct blow at, the principle of the weekly wage, which is about the only redeeming feature that has characterised drivers' awards in the past."
