FEDERAL ELECTIONS. COMMANDING LEAD IN SENATE. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, September 11. Election returns still are dribbling in. The Seriate figures have reached a stage at which it is unlikely that they will be altered much. Two Liberals, Sir A. J. Gould, and the Hon. E. D. Millen apparently are safe for New South Wales, and a third, Mr Oakes, looks like being defeated. Two Liberals have good, chances with a possible third in ! Tasmania. In South Australia a Liberal tops the poll. Other Liberals are out of the running. In other States Labour candidates have strong leads. According to th,e present showing the Senate will be composed as follows: — Labour 31 Liberals .. .... .. 5 Mr Fisher has accepted the General's commission to form a Ministry. Addressing a crowd that welcomed him at Melbourne he said that his party would do its utmost to preserve the integrity, of the Empire, and after that would proceed with economic reforms. THE LATEST RETURNS. NEW GOVERNMENT'S POLICY. (Received September 12, 11.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 12. The latest count has placed beyond doubt the fact that Riverina and Corio have been won by Labour, and Gippsland by an Independent. The Grampians seat is still doubtful. . MELBOURNE, September 12. Mr Fisher's cable to the London News Agency states that Australia is with England to the end in the war. The Labour Party's general policy will follow the lines of previous Labour Administrations, and an amendment to the tariff will be undertaken during the first session.
