MURDER IN WELLINGTON.
CHINAMAN BATTERED TO DEATH. FOUND IN HIS OWN HOUSE. Press Association. WELLINGTON, September 12. Early this morning the police received information that a Chinaman had been found murdered in his house in Adelaide Road. The door had been broken open, and the man's head severely battered. It is believed to have been done by a party of roughs. BRUTAL AND PREMEDITATED. The murder appears to have been brutal and premeditated. It is supposed the outrage took place early in the evening, as deceased's shop, which is generally open" till 10.30 p.m., was observed to be closed at about 8 o'clock. The shelves and counter in the shop were spattered with blood, and an iron bar, 20 inches long and 1* inches wide, and § inches thick, was found. The counter was also covered in blood. WHERE THE BODY WAS. The body was found in the kitchen at the back of the shop in a pool of blood, and had evidently been carried there after the act was committed. The head was considerably battered, and bore traces of three heavy blows, one over the right eye itself being, in Dr Henry's opinion, sufficient to cause death. The till was ransacked, and bloodstained finger prints showed where the money had been scooped out. The indications are that the Chinese was knocked down with one blow, and the door of the shop then hastily closed by the perpetrator of the "murder; who afterwards made an exit over the ; back fenee, and down a right-of-way leading on to the stre"et.
