NOMADS THE CHAMPIONS. A moderate crowd was in attendance at Sunnyside to witness the final struggle this afternoon. The proceeds of the gate and afternoon tea were devoted to the Patriotic.Fund. His Worship the Mayor was present. Sydenham, winning the toss, elected to play with the wind in their favour. His Worship the Mayor kicked off for Nomads, who quickly took up the running, Howie looking dangerous. Baker relieved. A run up by Sydenham's left was spoil by Clay. Baker pulled up Tanner and Grant at a critical moment. Hands against Sydeuham saw Tennant saving a "difficult shot from Mayo, Ward quickly transferring play to Nomads' half. Ward made an opeuing and tested Mavo, finding him safe. The Sydenham attacks so far had been well held by Nomads' defence, and Baker and Cornish were playing a safe game for Sydenham, tackling and kicking well. Nomads now broke through the cordon,, and amidst great excitement scored. Nomads 1. Sydenham 0. Nomads were now putting great sting into their play, showing superior combination, and Grant, making a suj>erb effort, scored number two for Nomads within a minute of the first goal. Sydeuham, by no means disheartened, came up to the attack with plenty of vim, but their goal mouth efforts were invariably weak. Off-side play relieved Nomads when Mayo and Golightly. were dangerous. Mid-field play of anything but an interesting character continued for some time, when van Brunt got possession, and with a shot from the line beat Tennant. Nomads 3, Sydenham 0. Sydenham came to the attack in a lively fashion, but failed to pierce the Nomads' defence. Nomads were showing superior play but combination was non-existent in either team, wild kicking being very much indulged in. Sydenham were falling away fast, Nomads having matters much their own way, and shots coming fairly frequently. Sweeny was doing great work for Sydenham.
