When Sunrose fell in the Hack Steeplechase at Amber ley he cut one of Ivis hind fetlocks rather badly. Prior to racing at Amberley, Mumura had been on the easy list as the result of an injured Jeg. Under the circumstances, his achievement of defeating all but Uaglestone in the Welter Flat Handicap liad a lot of merit in it. Judging by his two displays at Amberley on Saturday, Derby Day is likely to turn out a very useful j>erforiher over short courses. The Stronghold gelding is owned by Mrs R, T. IS'eale, who also figured in the race cards as his trainer. Attached to the stake of the Brackenfield Plate at Amberley was a handsome silver cup, presented to the club by Mr F. H. Courage. After Fairy Finn had carried Mr P. Elworthv's colours to victory the cup was presented to the horse's trainer, S. Trilford, in the absence of Mr El worthy. Prior to running in the Hack Hurdles at the Amberley Meeting, Forest Belle had only had two schools over the battens. Under the circumstances, her achievement of finishing third to Castiron and Mescal, two experienced hurdlers, was a most encouraging one. A feature of the racing at Amberley on Saturday was the repeated failure of favourites, as out of the eight'races only one first choice in Castiron prevailed.
Falls were just as numerous as ever at the Amberley Meeting, though the steeplechase course is by no means a severe one. Of the fourteen horses that contested the two cross-country events only seven got round without mishap. Neither Tim Doolan nor The Pole were much the worse for their mishaps at Amberley, though the latter was sore on returning to the paddock. Mr U. L. Stead had four representatives carrying his colours at Amberley on Saturday, but failed to win a single race. Tim Doolan and The Pole both fell, while C'ulross and Purseform each had to be content with second money.
At the annual meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club on Friday, Mr G. Hodges defeated Mr W. J. Gore for the position of president- by 168 votes io 94.
