PERSONAL.
General Sir. Alexauder Gpdley, left for the north on Saturday. Mr R. G., Bishop returned from the north yesterday. Mr A. J. Barnard returned to Ashburton on Saturday from a six months' trip to England. , Messrs G. Holdsworth, general manager of the Union S.S. Company, and Mr D. A. Aiken, assistant manager, arrived from the north on Saturday. Mr J. 11. Owens, postmaster at Taihape, will retire from the service early next month on superannuation, after having been connected with the Post and Telegraph Department for over 40 years. Lady Rutherford, who arrived from Wellington on Saturday, is staying with relatives in Bealey Avenue. Sir Ernest Rutherford leaves Sydney for Auckland next Wednesday. Mr G. Hogben, Inspector-General of Schools, and Mrs Hogben, arrived in Christcliurch on Saturday to see their son, Mr G. M. Hogben, who is a member of the Expeditionary Force. The death is announced of Mr James H Wylie, brother of Mr R. Wylie, of Kaiapoi. The late Mr Wylie was an enthusiastic supporter of hockey and swimming. He leaves a widow but no children.
