This morning the Federal and Shirr, liner Sussex arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington. Her future movements have not yet been an"nounced. A shortage of four firemen- at Wellington delayed the departure- of the ferry steam«:r Maori last evening, and it was not until these had been secured that she -was able to get away, after 9 o'clock. She was as a consequence late in reaching Lyttelton this morn- ' ing. , Speaking to a SUN representative this morning, Captain Manning staled that owing to the amount «f work going on at present in Wellington in connection with lilting up , the troopships, it was a matter of some difficulty to secure men in the capifeil, while it also seems that a good many are hanging back in order to secure positions in the Athenic when she sails. To-day the Union Company's Warrimoo is due. at Wellington from Sydney direct. She has on board l#fc> saloon and 84 steerage passengers for Wellington, and also brings 1300 tons of cargo. A departure from Wellington on Monday afternoon was the 0. and I), line's steamer SLar of India for. Aueklund via Napier. At the latter port it is understood she will load 90,000 carcases of mutton. Latest mail advices from Australia state that shipping at the various ports has been affected by the war. So far as can be ascertained at present, the declaration of Mar will iiot affect the sailings of British vessels from Attittralia for Home ports (says the Sydney "Shipping List''). No doubt, though, all vessels will receive certain instructions regarding routes to follow on the run Home; in fact, it was clear from the attitude of officials in the different companies' offices yesterday (the 10th) that something of this nature was already *n. But, as is natural and correct, no news could or would be divulged to enquirers. At one office it was gleaned that there had been no falling off in the demand for passages. Indeed, the passenger deyartnient official remarked, "Business had been fairly brisk during the last .f»w days."
