NATIVE LAND.
The Commission dealing with Native lands concluded its Kaiapoi sittings yesterday, and then adjourned. The next sitting will be held at Temuka. A meeting of. the Maoris of the Kaiapoi district was held at the Runanga Hall, Tuahiwi, on Thursday, where the question of the land was discussed in connection with the sitting of the Native Commission. The following resolutions were arrived at: —That the land (referring to, portions of the Southland. blocks gazetted for Canterbury Maoris at Kaiapoi) should be made of equal area irrespective of A-alue and. alienations; that the land should be let, and in addition royalities be paid on all sawn, split, or hewn timber for sale; that the control should be given to the Land Board for the present or till a satisfactory control Board was constitued; that the Natives strongly object to the Public Trustee having control; that the foregoing does not include or interfere with those who desire to use a family block. The resolutions were handed to the Commission by Mr T. E. Green, chairman of the meeting.
