KAIAPOI.

MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY. A very interesting evening was spent last night at the usual meeting of the above society, the subject being " Newspaper Evening." The following questions were dealt with: —"What was the most interesting in yesterday's paper?'' "Do the papers help to thwart the police?" "Are the cable messages biased?" "Do the papers encourage the absurdities of fashion J'' This last question evoked a humorous discussion which was taken part in by several lady members. Mr Ellen occupied the chair, and announced next week's meeting to be a debate on "Compulsory military training."
