MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION.
BIENNIAL CONFERENCE. Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 14. The thirteenth biennial conference of the Municipal Association opened today, Mr J. P. Luke presiding over nearly a hundred delegates. The Governor opened the conference and heartily commended town planning, though he pointed out the difficulties arising from the fickle development of towns, manifested by fashions in preferred localities. He also praised the general ideal of making towns beautiful throughout New Zealand, and referred to Arbor day, saying that tree-planting was highly desirable scenically and necessitously. Such work, was one of his hobbies. The delegates will be entertained at luncheon to-day by the Wellington City Council, and this afternoon at tea by the Governor, at meet House. The Wellington Racing* Club has invited the delegates to attend the races to-morrow. There is a very heavy order paper, including about 150 remits.
