PREVENTION OF RAILWAY COLLISIONS.

To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —-In the '' Northern Mail" there is an article containing a" general description of what is 'referred to as "A Christchurch invention to prevent collisions and to the remarkable character of. the invention and the .results.of the numerous combinations of rolling stock showing every prospect of . a collision, but which the invention miraculously prevented. It is claimed by the inventors that it will absolutely do a number of things preventing collision, any one of which is (if true) of incalculable value to the railway interests and more ,so to the users of the railways. Some of the statements or claims' are ex- ■ plicit, and leave no room whatever for discussion upon the point emphasised. There are. 13 special claims, all of which appear to > be verified by THE SUN representative, and the sooner the a invention is in use the better for all railways and railway users. As all efforts to effeet an improvement in railway equipment should be assisted by the Press as far as possible, it is hoped that the invention referred to above will be largely assisted towards installation by the very widest publicity. The writer lias now under consideration of the Minister arid' General Manager of the New Zealand Railways an invention with a similar object, viz.: the prevention of collisions, the only difference between it and all other inventions with the same object is that it claims by its use the absolute prevention of collisions, in. of all chance or. circumstance, WeStinghouse brake, or" other brake, or appliance (and in defiance of all attempts, even (if attempted) the engineering of a collision) notwithstanding. The invention is registered for patent, -and will no doubt be heard of shortly. —I am,* etc « ' - '' <' ANTI COLLISION. 7 ' Wanganui, July 11. . *■ \ \
