SOME FODDER VALUES.
INTERESTING ANALYSIS. It is particularly difficult to obtain reliable analysis- of fodder crops, and their value is usually discounted by the fact that the plants usually submitted are grown upon diverse soils, which naturally effects the nutritive value of the separate classes of At the Auckland Exhibition a number of fodder crops were planted, under exactly similar conditions. The soil was alike, as well as the treatment and date of sowing. On this account Mr A. Macpherson, Fields Instructor for the South Island, who was in charge of, the demonstration areas at the Ex- ; hibition. had samples analysed, and the result has just been.-,made public. Five plots of silver beet were included, two of Chilian beet, one Swiss chard, two of rape, one of Buda kale, and one of thousand-headed kale. Plot 115 was silver beet, dq,rk green, plain leaf; : 116, silver ,beet, light green, plain leaf; 117, silver beet, large ribbed,* green leaf; 118, silver beet, larged ribbed., leaf; ' 119, silver beet,, large ribbed, burled leaf; 120, Chilian beet, yellow ribbed; 121, Chilian beet, scarlet ribbed; 122, Swiss chard, perpetual; j 124, rape, broad Essex; 125, rape, Giant kale; 126, kale, thousand-headed; 127, kale, Buda.
