PERSONAL.
Mr G. W. Mills left for Wellington last night by the Ulimaroa. Mr G. W. Hean, oi Wanganui, arrived in town to-day on a business visit, and goes north again to-night. Mr C. Macfarlane, of Melbourne, arrived from the north this morning, and is staying at Warner's Hotel. His Honour Mr Justice leaves for the north this evening to attend the sittings of the Supreme Court. Dr Thompson, of the Arrowtown Hospital, has been appointed Medical Inspector of Schools for the Auckland district. Mr H. A. Marsden, Wellington, and Colonel Bowler, Gore, arrived in town this morning, and are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs IJsborae (London) who have been touring in the south, returned to Christchurch iast night, and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Amongst the passengers for Sydney by the Ulimaroa last night were:— Messrs J. Stevenson, J. T. Pavitt, D. Grant, W. Nixon, D. Spence, Lyndon Wood, C. Smith, D. M 'Lure, and F. S. Rutherford. Dr and Mrs Jones, Miss Jones, and Miss Longbottom, of Bournville, England, who arrived, in town last night, and Mr and Mrs Alston, of Wellington, who arrived this morning, are staying at the United Service Hotel. At the complimentary social to the Canterbury Coast Defence Infantry last evening, Mr F. R. Corson, on behalf of the officers, presented Major A. E. Loache with a case of pipes as an appreciation of his worth when in command of the corps at Kowai Camp. A Press Association, telegram from New Plymouth announces the death of Mrs R. Cunningham, aged eighty-four. She has lived in New Plymouth since 1842, having arrived in the Timandra with her parents, Mr and Mrs Loveridge, the heads of a well-known Taranaki family.
