GENERAL ACTIVITY. At the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of tho Young Men's Christian Association the following directors were present: —President (Mr Win, Ooss) and Messrs A. Kaye, A. W. Beaven, T. C. Field, O. F. Baker, G. A. Dawson, C. 10. Salter, .1. I. Boyds, W. J. Mason, A. W. Jamieson, Dr J. P. Whetter, Rev. John Mackenzie, and the general secretary (Mr E. C. Brownell). The success of tlitS Lake Coleridge work has encouraged the directors -to survey the situation at Bealey and Otira, in response to a request from those localities, and see if something can be done for the men at those centres. The Rev. .J. Mackenzie was elected chairman of a committee to .take the preliminary stops in the matter.
The Debating Club reported a membership of .120, the largest in the history of the association, and the largest Debating Club in Canterbury." A very successful season is being held.-A Shakespeare Club is in process of organisation, and the Motor Car Construction Class has secured a new teacher.
Plans arc under way to entertain the Territorials during the month, and the Gymnasium Committee reported all repairs to the gymnasium completed,- including the installation of electric light and the introduction of sliding skylights in the roof. The "Entertainers" are planning some interesting programmes, and have agreed to furnish concerts for the Seamen's Institute at Lyttelton, Sunnyside Mental Hospital, and several churches. It was reported that the Australasian Conference would be held in Sydney during the third week in October.
