SUMNER NOTES.
A large gathering of residents met in I the Town Hall last evening to say fare- ! well to Mr and Mrs J. W. Lill, who are I leaving the borough to again answer the I call of the land. The Mayor, Mr G. W. IC. Smithson, presided over nearly 200 ,' guests. The first part of the evening I was devoted to "progressive euchre," {the prizes being won by: Gentlemen, ! Mr A. M'Clatchie 1; Miss Bain 2 (Miss \ Bain played as a gentleman); ladies, Miss Buddon 1, Mrs Wiggins 2. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs Lavie and Mrs Benjamin. After supper dancing was indulged in until an early hour. During an interval in the proceedings the Mayor, in a happy speech, eulogised the guests of the evening; Mr Lill, he said, had been an acquisition to the borough for several years, and had rendered valuable service as. a councillor. With Mrs Lill, they had been prominent members of the Tennis and Croquet Clubs, and both had been only too ready to help in any worthy objeet. The speaker was of opinion that Mr and Mrs Lill were not saying "good-bye," | as he hoped to see them back again j within two years.
Mr Lill briefly replied, thanking the Mayor and residents, stating he had been only too happy to render any service to the borough. A mo.st enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of "Auld Lang Sync."
