BOWLING.

CANTERBURY CLUB.

At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Bowling Club last evening Mr J. Redpath presided over a good attendance of members.

The annual report—the ?>lst in the history of the club—referred sympathetically to the death of two old and valued members, the late Mr R. Marks and Mr E. C. Ashby. Mr Ashby was the oldest member of the club, and was a life member. He was a thorough believer in encouraging beginners at the game, and annually gave a handsome prize for that purpose. The thanks of the club were due to Messrs J. A. Redpath, jun. A. Lowry, IT. L. Bowker and C. Clark, Beath and Co;-, and the executors of the late Mr E. C. Ashby, for valuable trophies; to Mr F. J. Barlow for painting the roof of the pavilion; to Mr W. E. Simes for the use of his auction room; to Mr C. Lucas for the excellent manner in which the greens were kept, and to Mr Charles Cordery for taking the levels of the greens. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £8 11/11, and the balance of aßsets over liabilities was £llß 3/11. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. - The following officers were elected: — President, Mr E. A. Summers; vice-pre-sident, Mr R. H. English; committee, Messrs G. Baker, J. A. Redpath,'M. F. Barnett, E. Hoffman, B. J. Finnegan; honorary secretary, "Mr E. Tait; honorary treasurer, Mr T. Kirker; auditor, Mr A. Lowry; delegates to the Canterbury Centre, Messrs Barnett and' Tait.- . . - I

A letter was received from the Canterbury Centre with regard to pennant matches, and it was decided that the club was in favour of iutercjub matches, provided that the full strength Of the clubs was made available.
