"Times" and "Sydney Sun" Services
OTTAWA, May 13.
The newspaper "Citizen," the organ of the Independent Conservatives, states that Mr Emerson's objection to the, appointment of Prince- Alexander of Teck as Governor-General is symptomatic of the growth of the Democratic spirit in a country where titles are utterly out of harmony with the aspirations of nation-builders. [Speaking in the House of Commons recently, Mr Emerson, who held office in the Laurier Ministry, protested against the custom of. having Canada governed by Royalty. He said that the Canadians did not want to have German princes to rule over them, and urged the discontinuance of the practice.]
