Five pilots were drowned. SANE IN THREE MINUTES. SURVIVORS' NARROW ESCAPES. (Received May 14, 10 a.m.) Fourteen survivors' had narrow escapes. It was impossible to launch the pilot cutter's boats. Several scrambled aboard the Star of New Zealand by the anchor chain as the vessels stuck fast. Directly they parted t,he ( cotter sank —three minutes after the,,collision.
