INVESTIGATION OF PHYSICS.

Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 7. The Royal Society of London has made two grants front the fund .which it administers for the British Government to assist investigation in the physics department of Victoria' College. A grant of £ls is made towards the expenses of investigation by Messrs E. Rbwntree and L. Bastinks and Professor Laby into (a) the total ionisation produced by Alpha rays in gases and (b) the atomic stopping and scattering power of elements. The second grant of £2O is made towards the expense of investigation of thermal properties of gases by Mr E. O. Hercus and Professor Laby. A thesis by Mr: Hercus on this subject, has already been highly commended by scientific authorities.
