The prices for merinos and other sorts remain unchanged. RIVER PLAtFsHIPMENTS. River Plate shipments total—Mutton 215,000 carcases, lamb 156,000 carcases, frozen beef 121,000 quarters, chilled 302,500 quarters. HOME SHARE QUOTATIONS. Junctions.—26/6 to 27/6. BUENOS AYEES, May 5. The following, shipments of produce were dispatched from the Argentine to the United Kingdom during April, 1914, as compared with April, 1913: — 1914. 1913. There is general complaint among grain dealers of the paucity of offers of saleable parcels of grain. An unusual quietness rules in the trade, quite unprecedented at this season of the year. WHEAT. Useful milling lines of wheat are still in good demand, and the firmness prevailing of late continues. Pearl is worth 3/8* to 3/9, Hunters 3/7 M, Tuscans 3/7. Fowl wheat is in good demand at prices up to 3/4. OATS. The quiet tone of the oat market also continues, but prices remain unchanged. I Good average Algerians, suitable for seed, are worth 1/9, with other samples down to 1/6. A grade Gartons bring from 1/7$ to 1/8, B grade 1/6J to 1/7, Danish 1/5 to 1/6, Duns 1/6 to 1/8. BARLEY. This cereal is still as unsaleable as : ever, and Unless there is considerable exportation, there remains no prospect of better prices. Nominally prime malting is worth up to 3/3, with poorer quality at 2/6 upwards. CHAFF. Good samples of oatsheaf are fetching up to 50/- per ton, and the demand ; is a growing one. As yet the enquiry cannot be described as brisk. POTATOES. Growers are reluctant to sell at £3 15/- per ton, which is the prevailing* price for good'tubers, and many arc hanging on, asking £4. Digging is now general. ONIONS. The best quality lines of onions command £4 per ton, with others down to £3 15/-, and eveu less. The supply is sufficient to fill the requirements of the local trade and northern orders. GEASS SEED. Ryegrass is from 2/3 to 2/6, and inferior quality ranges from 1/6 to 1/9. Cocksfoot is unchanged, good seed bringing 4Jd and average samples to 3^d. White clover is worth 9d to lOd, and cowgrass 8d to 9d. OTHER LINES. Linseed is worth from £9 to £9 5/-. No. 1 partridge peas are quoted at 3/11, f.a.q. 3/8, and white ivory 3/10. Blue peas are very slack, Prussians realising from '.'</- to 3/3, and Imperials 3/- to 3/6. Beans arc dull of sale at 2/10. Bran is quoted at £4 5/- per ton, and pollard £6. ! Flour is now:—Sacks £lO, 1001b bags J £lO 10/-, 501b £lO 15/-, 251b £ll. I DAIRY PRODUCE. i Butter values now arc as follow: I Factory prints 14d, farmers' separator lid, and dairy lOd. > Cheese —Large dairy 51d, loaf 6d, factory large 5Jd to 6d. Hams arc at 12d, sides Old, rolls 10-id, large Hid. Eggs are now 1/9 per dozen, supplies being almost unobtainable. Extracted honey 3d, sections 6d. AT RANGIORA. The following values rule in the grain trade at Rangiora: —Wheat, Tuscan 3/6 to 3/7, Hunters 3/8, Pearl 3/9; fowl wheat, 3/- to 3/4; oats, A Gartons 1/8,

B 1/6 to 1/7, Duns 1/7 to 1/8, Algerians 1/7 to 1/8, Danish 1/5 to 1/6; oatsheaf' chaff, 45/- per ton; ryegrass, best, samples 2/6, others 1/9 upwards; red clover, 7d to 7£d; white clover, 9d to lOd; Partridge peas, 3/10 to 3/11; potatoes, £3 10/-; linseed, £9 to £9 5/-;, mangels, 20/-. THE MEAT MARKET. Writing under date March 27 Messrs ! Weddel and Co., of London, state that the trade for all descriptions of frozen moat continues to be quiet, and prices for many classes are lower. j Lambs. —There, has been no improve- > input in the demand for frozen lambs during the past week, and prices are again quoted easier. Canterbury lambs are weak, and to-day's values are 6|d per lb for the u/361b, 6d per lb for the 36/421b, and 53d per lb for the o/421b. Prime North Island carcases are quoted at 5Sd to 6d per lb, and ordinary carcases realise sfd to 53d per lb. Second quality brands realise s|d per lb if of small'weight. There has been.a very poor demand for the Australian article, heavy-weights being the only carcases in request, and these are very scarce. We quote to-day g.a.q. Australian lambs, u/361b at 51 d per lb, 36/421b at sid and 5 7-lGd per lb, and the o/421b at s|d per lb. F.a.q. lambs are quoted at Id per lb under these quotations. Eiver Plate lambs are unchanged at s}d to 5-kl per lb. "Mutton.—New Zealand mutton of small and medium weight sells readily enough at 4id to per lb for the u/641b carcases, but the o/641b, which are plentiful, do not realise more than 4d to 4kl per lb. Ordinary North Island carcases are quoted at 4d to 4gd per lb, and secondary wethers at 3ad to 41d per lb, according to weight. New Zealand ewes have been offered freely this week, and sales have been made at 3id to 4kl per lb. The bulk of the Australian supplies consist of medium and heavy-weight carcases, the former selling at 3fd to 31d per lb, and the latter 3|d to 3id per lb. The few small sheep available sell at 4d to 4Jd per lb. Ewes realised 3Ad to 32d per lb, according to weight. River Plate mutton is unchanged at 3id to 4Jd per lb. Frozen Beef. —Trade for frozen beef has been very disappointing this week. Australian crops are selling at 3Jd per lb, and hindquarters 4-Jd to 4id per lb. Eiver Plate fores are quoted at 3ld per lb, and hinds at 4ikl to per lb. New Zealand beef is selling at 3£d per lb for fores, and 4ld to 4id per lb for hinds. Chilled Beef. —The marketings this week have been heavy, and prices for fores have ruled low at 3§d to 3ld per' lb. Hinds close steady at about od per lb. THE FRUIT MARKET. The following were the ruling prices in to-day's markets:— Apples, dessert, 2hl to 3d per lb. Apples, cooking, 1W to 2d per lb. Oranges, 5/- to 5/6 per case. Pears, 4/- to 6/- per case.
