SHIPPING NOTES. This morning the Union Company's steamer Flora arrived in port from the West Coast, and sails for Dunedin this evening. A cable from London announces the departure of the Shaw, Savill liner lonic from | London last Friday. She is due at Wellington about June 10 and Lyttelton about a week later. Yesterday afternoon the Hiniitangi arrived at Lyttelton from the Chatham Islands, after a fine passage across. She landed a cargo of 375 sheep, 3 horses, 2 pigs, and 18 bales of wool. She returns to the islands to-mor-row, as she is having her boilers blown down during her stay in port. It is expected that the Pakeha will complete loading at Wellington in time to enable r her to sail for London next Thursday. Messrs J. Wright and Co., of Tuncurry, New South Wales, have launched what is claimed to be the argest wooden steamer built in New South Wales. The vessel is owned by Messrs A. Taylor and Co., who have had a large number of vessels constructed by the same firm, and has been named Naranic. She is 150 ft in length, of 32ft breadth, and Oft depth, and was to have been towed to Sydney this week to have her machinery installed. This is being constructed by Messrs Wildridge and Sinclair. The Norwegian barque Lilla, which has Just been purchased by the Union Company for use at Wellington as a hulk, was built at Rostock in 1886, and originally sailed under the German flag. She was acquired by Norwegian owners some years ago, and began the trip that has ended, her sea-going career in January last under most auspicious circumstances. All went well with her until February 20, when in latitude 43deg south and longitude 150deg east, a severe hurricane was encountered. The foretopmast and topgallantmast were carried away, and in falling this wreckage brought down the maintopmast. After the weather moderated a jury rig was fitted, and under this the barque reached Adelaide. On arrival there a survey was held, the result of which was communicated to the owners by cable. Later came a message to the effect that the vessel was for sale, and. eventually the negotiations were entered into with the Union Company.
