WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.
All the members were present at last night's meeting of the Waimakariri ' Harbour Board, which was presided over by Mr B. Lissaman. The harbourmaster reported that the tides in the early part of April were good, there being a depth, of 9ft of' water on'the bar. From, the 14th to 17th easterly seas prevailed, and on ; the 25th there was an easterly gale with heavy seas, and both rivers were flooded. This caused the formation of two bars, one to the north, and the other along the south wall., On the 21sti - the Kairaki had grounded on the bar, N but was ..refloated after 40,000 feet ofher timber cargo had been jettisoned. In his opinion the accident was due to the heavy seas. It was decided to forward the plans of a motor-boat landing stage to the Minister of Marine for approval. The financial statement showed that receipts for the month amounted to £139.5/8, and that there was a credit balance at the bank of £lll 1/2. It was decided to apply to the Public Trustee for information as to the amount required annually to extinguish the sinking fund on existing loans. The following committees were set up:—Works: , Messrs Keetley (chairman), Marsden, Skevington, Wright, and M'lntosh. Finance: Messrs Edmonds (chairman), Chamberlain, and Barnard.
