CAPSIZED IN A CREEK.
THE KAIKOURA COACH.' (Sun Special.) WAIAU, April 28. A good deal of rain has fallen in the back country in the last two days, and all* the rivers are high. This morning a washout caused the Kaikoura coach to capsize in the Lottery River. The one passenger, a lady, was reseued by the driver, who then released the horses and sent them off on the road to Waiau, where arrival was the first intimation that an accident had occurred. The mail bags were washed down the stream, but it is expected that all will recovered. The material for a bridge over this river is on order, and perhaps this taorn-,. irig's mishap will expedite its construction. The Postmaster at Waiau reports that, with the exception of five private bags and one hamper, the mails were saved, although the newspaper portion of the mails got very wet and is now undergoing the process of drying St the Waiau office, where the mails were returned. Diligent search is being made by the contractor and his men for the missing mails.
