Fourteen persons are known to havjQ been killed and four injured, one_mbrtally, in the. recent fire in a five-storey tenement.. The firemen who; were searching the wreckage announced that 14 bodies have been recovered. 'Among them was a woman with a babe in her arms, Several are missing, and many bodie3 l were /go" badly charred as to render identification .almost impossible. '■The. fire started in the basement of a five and ten cent., store which occupied the first floor, and spread rapidly up, the stairway. Many of the occupants of the apartment house escaped means ofv the fire escapes. ,JA, ca,ble on : , April 14 said that, a fire at,. Boston had destroyed a five-storey apartnient block. Seven .lives w.er,e lost and one of the occupants was missing. One hundred and twenty occupants narrowly escaped, but many ; of''them were .painfully burned.
