The assailant of the Mayor has been, identified as David Rose, 70 years of age. Rose, who was instantly overpowered! and arrested is evidently mentally unbalanced. Polk was seriously injured and taken, to- the hdsuital.' Rose refused to answer questions. It is understood he ealled -to see-.-.-ther. Mayor frequently, but was refused,admission owing to his queer actions.
