SHEFFIELD SALE.

At the Sheffield sale yesterday some 16,000 sheep were penned, of which 6300 were in the fat pens, lambs accounting for -4500, the bulk being medium to prime. A few lots were extra heavy show lambs. The balance of fats was made up of 1000 wethers (which included a nice line of 902 from High Peaks Estate, 547 making 22/7, and 355 18/9), 600 fat crossbred ewes, the balance being merino wethers. In the store pens there were 2700 cross and halfbred ewes, 1300 cross and halfbred wethers, 3300 lambs, 1900 merino ewes, 450 merino wethers and a few rams. The bulk of the sheep were straight station lines, and there was an entire absence. of dealers' travelled lots. There was a full attendance of both farmers and freezing buyers. Competition for freezing lambs opened somewhat easier, but hardened slightly as the market progressed. A number of lots were passed at auction, some of which found buyersprivately afterwards. There ,was a good sale for most stores. Prices were: —Fat crossbred wethers 18/9 to 22/7, fat Jambs 17/- to 19/6,; extra to 20/4, shorn lambs 21/6, extra to 20/4, show lambs. 21/6 to 22/3, fat crossbred ewes 13/3 to 17/9, extra, 18/10 to 20/-, fat merino wethers 15/8 to 18/5, two-tooth halfbred ewes (off tussock) 18/- to 20/1, two and four-tooth ditto. 21/6, sound-mouth ditto 17/3, two-tooth crossbred ewes 18/6 to 21/6, fourtooth ditto (small) 17/6 to 17/9,' sound; to failing-moirth 17/1, failing 13/2, aged 8/6 to 9/9, two and four-tooth crossbred wethers 17/-, foyo-tooth (small) 14/11, two and four-tooth halfbred wethers (off tussock) 16/8, two-tooth ditto 15/7, ewe lambs 16/1 to 17/5, ditto (small, off tussock) 12/6, mixed sexes 13/5 to 15/2, wethers off tussock 9/1 to 13/-, full-mouth merino ewes 15/,, full to 'failing 8/2 to 9/7, aged 5/7' to 7/6, culls 3/-, full-mouth merino wethers 10/- to 14/8, aged 4/7.
