Spiller, J. W. Watson, A. T. Symons, and Mesdames Turner and Atkinson. A letter was received complainihg of the method employed in killing pigs at the Belfast Freezing Works. The inspector was instructed to report on the matter. It was decided that a special meeting should be called for April 24, with the object of discussing the new constitution of the society. A letter was also received asking that the society should use its influence in obtaining better accommodation for dogs travelling on the trains. It was decided to write to the Railway Department.

PROJECT THAT FAILED.

Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 7. A proposal, that a New Zealand body should be formed to be called the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals did not meet with support at a meeting of the committee of the Otago Society to-day. The secretary said the matter had been before the committee last year and it had then been resolved that the committee was in favour of a proposal for the affiliation of the various societies in New Zealand, and he thought that much good would be accomplished by conferences of delegates, otherwise the committee was not in favour of the points raised by the Wellington Society. Mr Cr. Fenwiek, chairman, said it was against the interests of the local society to join. The Otago Society's funds would not benefit. Mr Mills said it was asking the society to commit suicide. A motiou was carried that the secretary should reply stating that the committee of the Otago Society failed to see how "the work of any individual society was to be advanced by the formation of the proposed New Zealand Society.
