BEAUTIFYING SPREYDON.
AN ASSOCIATION -FORMED. The movement recently launched to have some "beautifying work done in Spreydon, with , a view of improving the appearance of spare and unoccupied spaces, received a further impetus last evening, whfcn a public meeting, under the auspices of the Borough Council and the Burgesses' Association, was held. , The Mayor (Mr G. R. Whiting) presided, and after the subject had been fully and sympathetically discussed, it was unanimously resolved to form a I Beautifying Association. The membership fee was fixed at 1/- for men, and ladies will be admitted free. The following officers were elected: Mrs D. Jessop; president, Mr 6, R.. Waiting; vice-president, Mr W. R. Gahagah; committee, Messrs Whiting, E, Hayes, S. A. Hancock, A. Manhire, T. Thornton, G. H.. Herbert, T. Smart, A. Nicoll, Williamson, and Elliott; hon. curator, Mr Robt. Nairn; hon. secretary treasurer, Mr Watts. The General Committee was instructed to draw up a set of rules and regulations to be submitted at the next meeting to be held at the Council Chambers on April 23. Jn, a discussion on the work which might immediatly be taken up by the society, there was a fairly unanimous opinion expressed that * the first and most important sphere of work was the of the Heathcote river. A triangle at the corner of Strickland Street and Crescent Road, on, the boundary of the city and the borough, was also mentioned, the idea being that it might be beautified much in the same way as has been done with the triangles in the heart of the city.
