DUNEDIN DOINGS.

From Our Special Correspondent. DUNEDIN, April 1. The motor gymkhana at Tahuna on Saturday made a brilliant finale to our gala week festivities. At half-past two Princes Street was gay with a procession of decorated cars on their way to Tahuna. One car was beautiful with tinted maple leaves, and another very effective one was decorated in lavender and heliotrope sweet pea. The flower hall was under the supervision of Mrs Lindo* Fergusson, while Miss Downie Stewart managed the tea marquee. The assistants here were in white, with dainty muslin aprons, and the tea tables were fragrant with pink and red sweet pea. The Italian oil and water paintings which have been on exhibition for the past few days, were auctioned this afternoon, in the Art Gallery. Mr R. Hudson secured the oil painting '' Capucini," by Corinna Modigliana, for £l6, and "Youth," by the same artist, for' £37 10/-. The Y.M.C.A. baths were the scene of the first women's- swimming carnival | ever held in Dunedin, which was under | the auspices of the Young Women V Christian Association. The , - competi- ' tions efforts reflected great credit on Mrs Wheeley, their instructress. Mis:; Boss, of Girt on College, acted as judge. Up to the opening of our public baths a few days ago, the Y.M.C.A. baths i were the only tepid water ones here, so that swimming has been looked upon, hitherto, by the young person as an accomplishment. Now, we will hope, it will become a habit. Miss Brentnall, 8.A., student secretary of the Y.W.C.A. in Calcutta, is expected in Dunedin on Saturday, and her arrival is being eagerly looked forward to by the other members of the association. She is to be entertained on Monday by the university girls, and. on Tuesday she will be the guest of honour at a large afternoon gathering in the Y.W.C.A. rooms. Miss Gutten is at present visiting in the North Island. Miss Murdoch is the guest of Mrs Fullerton, St Clair. Mrs S. H. Prior, wife of one of the proprietors of the Sydney "Bulletin," and Mrs wife of the proprietor of the "Barrier Miner," the Broken Hill daily, arrived in Dunedin together with Mr Prior on Saturday. They intend visiting the Southern Lakes. HONORIA.
