ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
INJURED IN RESCUING HER CHILD. Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 2. Risking her own life to save that of her son from almost certain death, Mrs Harkins, a resident of WelTesley Street West, was run over by a' horse and trap this morning, and sustained serious injuries in her successful effort to drag her child away. She now lies in a serious condition at the hospital, where the full extent of her injuries has not yet been ascertained. Mrs Harkins was engaged in her store when she heard the noise of the ,horse and trap, which had been stabled in the neighbouring yard, running along the r pavement. She immediately rushed out, and' saw the horse coming at full gallop, and her boy playing immediately in front. Quickly rushing to his rescue, she was in time to drag him away, but too late to avert accident to herself. She fell backwards against the wall of her shop, and the wheels of the trap ran over her thigh. She was picked up in an almost unconscious condition and conveyed to the hospital. FATAL FALL FROM TRAIN. WELLINGTON, April 2. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of James Borland, who was found dead on the railway line near Ngahauranga on Tuesday. The coroner found that he died as the result of a fall from a train, no blame being attachable to anyone.
