CAMBRIDGE WINS!
UNIVERSITY BOAT RACE.
AN EASY VICTORY. By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright. LONDON, March 28. Cambridge "beat Oxford'easily by four lengths. 1 The race was rowed in perfect weather.
Cambridge chose the Surrey side. Rowing admirably, they forged ahead from the start, and had two lengths' lead at Harrod's. Oxford gamely, but ineffectually, struggled to reduce the lead, but Cambridge easily held them. The race was a procession from Hammersmith, despite Oxford's spurts. Several Oxonians were distressed. Cambridge paddled home four and a half lengths tp the good in 20min 23sec.
An impromptu stand on a barge at Hammersmith collapsed, and a hundred people were thrown on to the deck of the barge. Fourteen sustained fractured limbs, and seven are in hospital. [Saturday's contest was the seventyfirst in the history of the race, and of these. Oxford has won 39, and Cambridge 31. The race in 1877 resulted in a dead heat. The'following table shows the winners of the race sinbe 1900, the times, and the distance by which they yon.:—
