OVERHAULING THE CABLE.

The Eastern .Extension Co.'s cable repair steamer Patrol has returned after , overhauling the Eastern cable between Botany Bay and Nelson. The actual cost of the, repairs was £25,000. The cable was laid in 1876 and was found to be in better condition than the new one. Both are in excellent condition.
