IMPOSSIBLE POSITION. MINISTER OB COMMISSIONERS. Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 18. At, the annual gathering of the mail room clerks, the chairman of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association referred to the dispute between the association and the Public Service Commissioners. It had engaged the attention of the executive for months past, and the advice of the best men in the Service had been sought, but no solution had been arrived at. It was generally admitted, and regretted, that the Commissioners had been against the association from the outset. Differentiation between, the grading of positions in the Civil Service and the Post and Telegraphs existed, and the Commissioners had not removed it. This they could prove. The position was impossible, and they could not submit to the Commissioners' ruling. The Service had objected to Commissioners, they did not want them, and the time was eagerly looked forward to when the Department would again be under the control of the Minister. The speaker also deplored the fact that senior officers of the Department gave no help, and had not come forward at this crisis. The secretary of the Department then intimated that he was quite willing to meet the representatives of the association and endeavour to arrange an understanding.
