MOTOR CYCLING.

The North Canterbury Motor Cycling Club intends holding a gymkhana on the 28th of this month, provided a suitable ground can be obtained. The club will hold its 100-mile beach race orer. tfre usual four-mile track at New Brighton on April 4. On April 11 to 13 the club's Easter run will be made to Hanmer Springs, and the speed trials, oyer one and five miles, wiil be held on May 2. The side-car trials will be held on June 3, but the place has yet to be decided on. Mr E. E. "Waitej late curator of the museum, who was vice-president of the Motor Cycle Club, was fare welled at a meeting of the club last Monday night, and was presented with a handsomelyframed photograph of the executive members.'

Messrs J. W. Simes, F. E. Drake, and A. H. Bullivant, made a trip to Lake Coleridge last week, on 2J h.p. Douglas cycles. The route was made via Aylesbury and Hororata, thence from the Hororata Anglican Church along the Downs Road for about five miles,, and following the electric poles at the intersecting road to Lake Coleridge, a total distance of 70 miles. Good roads all the way are reported, and interesting scenery, while thfre is also much of interest in connection with the work of constructing the electric supply. * The cycle and motor trades annual picnic takes place to-morrow at Motukarara. A good sports programme has been arranged. The picnickers will leave by the 9.40 train in the morning. In one of the principal garages in town there is at present one of the latest models of side-cars. It is a luxurious car, like a miniature motor, fitted with hood, side-curtains, and wind-screen, finely upholstered and sprung like a landeau. Several more will be placed on the market sobn, and since the cost is only about £lO more than, the ordinary side-car, there should be a demand for them. * An indication of the enormous increase in the popularity of the motorcycle in this district was furnished by one of the leading motor-importing firms the other day. Since the beginning of January this firm has sold over 150 & motor-cycles, and a large number of side-cars, this being double the amount sold in the same period of last vear.
