LAWN TENNIS TROPHIES.
Three fine trophies of particular interest to lawn tennis players are now being shown in the shop-windows of Messrs Lewis and Anderson, Cashel Street, Christchurch. Two of them are fine sterling silver cups, which should cause a keen sporting rivalry between the players who are in the happy position of being able to compete for them. Mr C. de Pass has presented one of them —and a particularly fine trophy it is—to the Sumner Lawn Tennis Club, as a challenge cup for men's handicap singles. To stimulate greater interest in the game, and give junior players an opportunity of pitting their prowess against that of senior players on a carefully-adjusted system of handicapping, the competition is open to all grades of players. The other cup has been given by Mr T. Teschemaker —who presents one each year—to the Riccarton Eecreation Club for handicap lawn tennis singles. It, too, is a very attractive trophy. The two clubs are fortunate in having such excellent trophies for competition. The third trophy o,n view is the shield competed for in the Junior B Grade of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's competitions. This is the first year in which? the shield has been provided, but as the competition has been held in two previous seasons, the association has decided to have the names of the clubs which have won the competition in past seasons engraved on the shield.,* So the Ayonside and United Clubs will have their names placed on the tropKy #
