The Canterbury College Observatory will in future be open on Tuesday evenings instead of Friday, the hours being from Bto 9-and 9to 10. The observatory is under the able charge of Mr /D. B. Macleod, and tickets for admission may be obtained from the college office free of charge, admission being by ticket only. ~ '. ,
, As some return for the hospitality extended by; the people of Akaroa to the delegates to the conference of the ■United Fire Brigades' Association, and in commemoration of the holding of-the
conference at Akaroa, the delegates to the conference made a collection yesterday to provide an additional seat in the Akaroa Domain. Before the commencement of the ordinary monthly meeting yesterday of the Waimairi County Council held a special meeting to pass a by-law drawn up to deal with drainage in the council's area. It provided that permission should be secured from the Drainage Board to construct septic tanks, and full provisions were made for dealing with
the drainage problem. The Lyttelton Industrial Union of ■y Waterside Workers held a meeting this 'morning, when the secretary (Mr R. M. Stewart) was instructed to circularise the;santerbury members of Parliament', asking them to meet a deputation from t^eViiniori., The ; members selected to represent the union are Messrs W. Agar, H. R*-Voyce, and J. Wilson. When applications closed ~at 4 p.m.

The next practice of the Musical Society will be conducted by the wellknown musician, Mr Walker Handel Thorly, who will also take the rehearsal of the Christchurch Orchestral Society to-morrow night.
Owing to the generosity of Mr Walter Parkinson, the well-known farmer and sheep breeder of Kaituna, the remaining area of bush at the north end of the Kai.tuna Valley can now become the property of the public at an early date.

Yesterday a motor-par, ran over a small boy four years old,, n-ahied Harry Ricard, whose parents live at 81, Lower High Street. He was -removed to the hospital last night,,and his injuries were found to consist of a~ fractured thigh and'slight bruises.' ,; V ';
