(Before Mr H. W. Bishop,. S.M.) There, was a very small list at tho Magistrate's Court to-day, and only one second offending inebriate came before the bench. FALSE PRETENCES. Reginald Freeman appeared to answer to two charges of obtaining £3 1/- and £1 .15/- bv fa'lsely representing himself as in the" employ of T. J. Miller and Co., of Auckland. Freeman was arrested in Auckland and brought down here, and on the application of Chief Detective Bishop he was remanded this morning for eight days to allow witnesses to be brought down from Auckland. Bail was allowed in a recognisance of £SO and one surety of £SO. Freeman left the Court, and the next case was called and dealt with, whes, Mr Leathern, who had appeared for cused, came back and said Freeman had decided to plead guilty. 4 ' Oh, very well,'' said Mr Bishop, >3.M., "but I don't see the use of this. It's only a try on." "It was against my advice that he pleaded not guilty in the first place/" said accused's counsel. . The charge was formally read over again, and accused pleaded guilty .to . , both charges. Counsel explained thi# Freeman had been in the employ of the ; firm, he had said he was workfhg for, •but had left when he committed the offence. He. h&d given two orders ou this Auckland firm to two Christchurebi firms, and both had been dishonoured.. Freeman was fined 40/- on each charge, with the option of going to . gaol for two months, and was ordered to repay the total amount, £4 16/-. Robert Hornsby, who was drunk yesterday, was fined 10/-, with the option of going to gaol for 48' hours. Hugh Williams, £33 19/- in arrears with a maintenance order, was given until Saturday to make arrangements for payment. * : ? CIVIL BUSINESS. (Before Mr H. Bishop, S.M.) ; STORAGE OF A CYCLE. H. Gurdler (Mr Andrews) sued Birch and Whitta (Mr Leathern) for the return of a lady's bicycle or payment W the amount of £2 10/-. Evidence showed that • plaintiff had bought a cycle for £1 10/- from defendants and later had brought it back damaged beyond repair. Defendants alleged that plaintiff had agreed to buy a new bicyele, but did not come for it or for his old.one for some months. When he did come defendants charged him storage (12/6), which plaintiff refused; to-pay. Defendants refused to deliver the cycle * until they received the sum named. jHSs Worship gave judgment for plaintiff, and ordered the immediate delivery of the bicycle, the value of which he assessed at £l. Robert Marks (Mr leathern) sued Henry Hayhes (Mr Hunter) for damages caused to property through the trespass of defendant's cow, which ate i#sunpry cabbages and peas. .His Worsshijg; assessed the damage at, £l, arid Jkve judgment for plaintiff.
