NO FEVER OF ANTICIPATION.
SIR JOSEPH WARD IN DUNEDIN. (The Sun Special.) DUNEDIN, February 26. The fact that the Leader of the Opposition intends to speak in Dunedin on Thursday night has not raised a fever of anticipation such as was occasioned in the days when he floated easily on the crest of the political wave. Now it would seem that his political slogan is accepted as something in the nature (if one may be permitted to thrust poetry into politics) of "The cry of a strong swimmer in his agony." Sir Joseph obviously battles against the current, and progress is not so swift and pleasant as with the flow. Doubtless he will draw a big audience, but it will -require something more than political "cauld kail liet again" to arouse enthusiasm in Dunedin. The good folks in the south have heard so much about the faults of the Massey administration that they now desire to hear what thie Liberals intend to do to make things better. Their task is really not easy. The Government has gone so far on Liberal lines that the Liberals are almost forced into old Toryism in order to introduce something novel in politics. There is humour in the position when you come to look at it closely.
